Being able to communicate and motivate players to achieve success is Coach Smith’s goal for EVERY player.
“My coaching system is best defined as relational. I get to know my players, what they like, what they are doing right and what changes need to be made in order to build their confidence and move their game to the next level.” Coach Smith constantly tells his players “if your approach is good then your mechanics will be good.” In order to get the most from each player’s abilities he does so by teaching the skills and drills aspect of baseball in addition to the mental approach to the game. Coach Smith has a unique style in connecting with the player in order to make baseball make sense…regardless of age level. |

I have trained players at my facility since 1991. Having worked with so many good players over the years I have had some of my students go on to high school, college, professional and Major League careers. My childhood dreams of playing professional baseball were realized when I was drafted in the 37th round by the Oakland A’s. After spending two and half seasons in the AZ Rookie league the A’s released me. That summer I played with AIA and toured China and the Philippines…this was a life changing experience traveling, playing and teaching baseball. When I returned the Mets signed me to a minor league contract. My years with the Mets had me in Pittsfield MA, Binghamton NY and Norfolk VA. My last season was with the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League. During the season I sustained a back injury that required surgery. This was my third surgery in my career and I thought it was time to move on to other pursuits in my life. My wife and I married that November and I enrolled at KSU earning my Exercise Health Science degree. " -Coach Smith |
